Clarence Earl Allen was born Aug. 16, 1916 to Absalom Roe and Cora Williams Allen in Sevier County. He married Trula Williams (1915-1991) and had five children. On May 4, 1944, Allen enlisted in the Army where he was assigned to Co. B of the 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. On Jan. 1, 1945, Allen was killed in action in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. His body was repatriated in August 1948 and he was subsequently buried in the Allen Cemetery in Sevierville.
